13.7 billion years. It’s taken the universe that long to bring you to this priceless moment. To live a life worthy of the immense gift life is requires risk and love. Every inventor, artist, revolutionary, reformer, and heretic (and I mean “heretic” in the beautiful sense of that word: “one who’s free to choose”) has dared, often recklessly, the fulness of life.

To do so is what each of us must at some point do if we are to enter the marvelous nobility of our full humanity.

Emerson once said that “Society everywhere is in conspiracy against the humanity of every one of its members.” Convention wants us to conform. But “whoso would be themselves, must be a nonconformist.”
